There’s just something about summer that makes stars want to lighten up.
For some celebs such as Dianna Agron and ariel winter that means switching to a blond hue. But if you’ve already got golden strands like Candice Swanepoel there’s really only one option: going platinum.
“I wanted to do something different. . . Something spur of the moment,” the model told E! News’ Alicia Quarles at last night’s amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York City.
Indeed, she beached her hair only two hours before attending the event! But despite the impulsive decision it looks like she might be keeping the lighter locks for awhile since she agreed, “Blondes do have more fun!”

We spoke to our body issue cover girl Candice Swanepoel and her trainer Justin Gelband on how to be fit, not skinny.
“Not model thin. Model fit” reads the slogan on the website of celebrity trainer and “model whisperer” Justin Gelband. The trainer and self-professed “life coach” has worked with the best in the business, including many of the Victoria’s Secret Angels, and champions a program that focuses on a healthy approach to getting a model body.
“I recognised that the girls in the industry were really behind,” says Gelband. “They weren’t concentrating on their bodies; it was more about not eating, not exercising and doing everything they can to lose the weight as quick as they can.” He thought what was needed was a method that ensured “all the women are eating, doing exercise and cardio and working on their bodies and minds and incorporating all these great things into their daily regimens so they can be the best they can be with the bodies they’ve been given.”
Gelband began working with Swanepoel shortly after her Victoria’s Secret runway debut. After seeing her on the runway he was determined to work with her and immediately approached her agent. The rest, as they say, is history.
So how do we do it Justin – how do we get a body like Candice?
“To be the best you can be with the body you’ve been given and work on the curves you have, you need to stop looking at what everyone else is doing and stop worrying about the whole quick fix,” says Gelband. “Anyone can be model fit, anyone can be their own model in their own body,” he says.
“The best thing to do is to work on your nutrition, eat proper foods, get the proper nutrients and minerals and vitamins in your body and then at the same time, exercise properly. If you do that you’re not only going to feel good mentally but physically as well,” he says.
STICK TO IT
Candice is a dream candidate for Justin’s program with a work ethic and determination that helps her to continue training when travelling. “I’ve always been very disciplined with everything I do. I grew up doing ballet from a young age and that’s where it started,” says Swanepoel. “I’m prepared all year round because we shoot all year round,” she says. Gelband stresses the importance of a maintainable program. “We do no more than an hour and she works out three to four days a week,” he says.
VARIETY IS KEY
“Each day is different,” says Gelband. “We’ll do some pilates, we’ll do some yoga, we’ll do some balance and stability, some movement and motion and we’ll do some boxing so she can release some stress and get nice and tight. But we’re always changing her movements and her exercise,” he says.
FIGHTING FIT
Recently, Swanepoel has worked with her trainer to take boxing to another level. “I did kickboxing before, which was great for my core, so I’m now learning to fight like a professional fighter.” The model mixes boxing, skipping and ballet to target different muscle areas. “I’m still finding muscles I didn’t know I had!”
CRUNCH TIME
“When we want to work on her stomach and her core we do a lot of boxing. When we’re doing her butt we use ankle weights and focus on the inner thigh and her butt, the inside, outside and top. [It’s about] really rounding the butt off.” Gelband’s derrièr-perfecting move involves starting on all fours with a light weight strapped on the ankle. Start with a straight leg, making small lifts up and down. Complete 12 to 15 reps with each leg, starting at the side, then repeat with the leg straight behind, then slightly inward. Repeat the whole exercise with your leg bent, sole of the foot to the sky. This time, rest on your elbows to protect your back. Don’t be disheartened if you can’t complete all reps the first time; work towards this number in your routine.
RELAX
“I don’t deny myself anything,” says Swanepoel. “Extremely oily and salty foods make me feel instantly ill, so everything I eat is good for me, organic and fresh. If there is one thing someone has to supervise me with, though, it’s peanut butter and chocolate ice-cream.” When it comes to taking a break from her hectic work schedule, Swanepoel reconnects to her South African upbringing by getting close to nature. “I like to take a trip somewhere beautiful near the ocean or any water. Nature is what restores my energy.”

Every body is perfect: some are just more perfect than others.
This month we celebrate those who make the most of their best assets, like cover girl Candice Swanepoel, who shows off her enviable posterior in Sweet as Candi, as well as those legs that go on and on, as displayed in the punky Wild Cat. Proving that a Gen X can still rock it, Amber Valletta bares a tight and toned midriff in Ab Fab. And for our money, the most important asset is undoubtedly the body confidence sported by glamazon Robyn Lawley in Poster Girl. Go girls!

Victoria’s Secret superstar and June cover girl Candice Swanepoel spoke to Vogue about her low-key beauty routine, Instagram addiction and upcoming book project.
After her discovery in a flea market at age 15, this South African beauty has had a meteoric rise to fame. Numerous coveted advertising campaigns, walking the runway for the best in the business and a lucrative Victoria’s Secret contract are all testaments to Swanepoel’s admirable work ethic.
The 25-year-old says modelling is a business like any other. “I set goals and try to do projects that I believe in,” says Swanepoel. “It’s important to put yourself in situations that force you to learn and grow and be inspired. That’s why I enjoy doing editorial so much, because each shoot is so different,” she says.
Swanepoel relished in the opportunity to work with Vogue Australia and famed photographer Hans Feurer. “He shoots very differently to anyone else I’ve worked with,” she says. “It’s always interesting to see how different people perceive beauty and how they capture it.”
She admits working on the freezing streets of Paris wasn’t always easy. “The funny thing about the styling for this particular shoot is that I wasn’t wearing pants in many of the shots, which is a little daunting on the streets of Paris! I had arrived at the motorhome straight off the plane from St Barts, so the cold was a complete shock to my system,” she says. “I’m so happy to be a part of this issue; the crew was fabulous.”
The South African beauty has a laid-back approach to style, preferring a classic model-off-duty look of white T-shirts and denim. Her go-to outfit? “My old faded black high-waisted jeans, a white T-shirt, booties and Céline bag. Extremely simple,” she says. And beauty? “I use coconut oil as lotion and rosewater spray to keep my skin hydrated,” she says. “On days off, I don’t use make-up.”
Swanepoel is an active participant in social media with over 900,000 followers on her Instagram @angelcandice and over 400,000 on Twitter. “I’m addicted to Instagram. There – I said it!
“I don’t think too much about what I post. That’s why I sometimes get in trouble! I see things that I think are beautiful and use it as a kind of public journal of my travels and experiences,” she says.
Australian fans of the Angel can rejoice, with her plan to visit Australia in the not-so-distant future, as part of her upcoming book project with Victoria’s Secret photographer Russell James. “Last year we decided ‘let’s do it’, and decided to combine our love of the most amazing natural locations and our love for making art, and do a book that we hope will be like a visual adventure.”
Locations are still to be confirmed but Swanepoel says her ideal will include Africa, Australia, Papua New Guinea, East Asia and South America. “A complete adventure both creatively and spiritually.”

This Victoria’s Secret beauty always looks toned, whether she’s donning sexy swimwear or VSX exercise gear. “For me, mixing workouts like boxing, jump rope, and basic ballet works best,” the South African-born Swanepoel says. “Boxing works my arms and core, ballet elongates my muscles, and jumping rope is a great way to warm up before any workout.” As good as she looks in a bikini, it’s only natural for Swanepoel to enjoy working out oceanside too: “My favorite exercise is something that doesn’t feel like I’m exercising at all, such as swimming in the ocean or playing paddle ball,” she says, adding that she sticks to a healthy diet of organic foods and lots of fruits and veggies.

Grazia Daily: What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?
Candice Swanepoel: I’ve always been taught that you’re never too young to take care of your skin. Everything from the food you eat to what you put on your face is important. I lead a healthy lifestyle and get all my vitamins from the food I eat. I supplement that with my skincare routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising.Grazia Daily: What’s the best thing about being a Victoria’s Secret girl?
Candice Swanepoel: The best thing is probably the beautiful beaches we get to shoot on. We recently went to St. Barts and Tulum, and they are some of the most breath-taking places on earth. We shoot with really amazing teams and we’ve become like a family. My best Victoria’s Secret moment to date was when they did a special segment about me for the 2012 Fashion Show – it was really a significant moment for me!Grazia Daily: What do you need to have to be a Victoria’s Secret girl?
Candice Swanepoel: For me, it’s about having a love for life and being confident. Having a positive attitude and being healthy are also qualities that Victoria’s Secret Angels have. Being an Angel is different than other modeling jobs because you have to be a spokesperson as well. It’s a lot more challenging than it looks!
Grazia Daily: What are your favourite beauty products and treatments?
Candice Swanepoel: My favourite thing I use daily is a really simple tea tree oil face wash that has green tea in it. I am never without my Victoria’s Secret Lip Scrub and Balm – the scrub is a really nice exfoliator and the balm soothes my lips. I make sure I have a facial one week before the Victoria’s Secret show as I find it really helps to make my skin glow and look more radiant. I’m also loving the new Victoria’s Secret Fabulous fragrance, I’ve been wearing the Eau De Parfum as it’s such a lovely, wearable scent.
Grazia Daily: What’s your top tip for glowing skin?
Candice Swanepoel: For me, it comes down to eating healthily to make my skin look it’s best. Good skin comes from within and I make sure I eat nutrient-rich foods like fish, lots of veggies, nuts and foods that contain omega and are rich in oils. I also adore avocado and goji berries, so I eat those daily. They have fantastic skin-boosting benefits! Every now and then I love having a cheat meal, and if I were to have one right now it would be a delicious pulled pork sandwich!Grazia Daily: What’s your secret to feeling confident in your underwear and bikini?
Candice Swanepoel: I think that when you feel fit and healthy you also feel confident in yourself. The two go hand-in-hand. I take really good care of my body and that is the fastest way for me to feel good about myself.
Grazia Daily: What has been your latest shopping splurge?
Candice Swanepoel: I don’t often get the chance to shop since I am so busy, but my biggest splurges recently have been furniture. I am really into well designed pieces and love beautiful objects for my home. I would love to buy myself a gorgeous new Chanel bag -oh and something from Cartier would be nice too!Grazia Daily: How would you describe your off-duty style?
Candice Swanepoel: My off duty style is very casual and comfortable. I like to look chic so I love to buy simple pieces to wear day to day. I travel a lot and am constantly on planes so I tend to go for easy cotton pieces and team them with killer accessories to luxe it up a bit. I do love how daring London girls are with their fashion, they always look amazing.source: graziadaily
Eating chocolate in your underwear is a pretty good way to pass the time — and it seems Victoria’s Secret Angels (including Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldrige and Candice Swanepoel) agree with us on that count. In this cute video, the lingerie-clad supermodels indulge in treats from the seven-piece Vosges Haut Chocolate collection, which you can get free in Victoria’s Secret stores with any purchase over $75. And because we wanted more dirt on how an Angel spends Valentine’s Day, we spoke with the lovely Swanepoel about how she likes to celebrate.
Q: Have you ever had a bad Valentine’s Day?
A: I have been disappointed before, but I think every girl has been at some point or another.
Q: Lingerie, chocolate or flowers?
A: Any of those are great. I like surprises! I do love flowers and chocolates though — they’re just a nice, simple treat.Q: How would a single Angel celebrate Valentine’s Day?
A: I’ve spent it alone before. I like to treat myself to a spa visit! It’s relaxing and sometimes it’s nice to have that quiet time.Q: Chocolate + prix fixe dinner + wine = possible romance killer. How does one fake a hot bod after all that indulging?
A: I think any lingerie from Victoria’s Secret makes any woman feel and look sexy! One of my favorites is the Very Sexy push-up bra.
Yes, you read that right. And no, this isn’t a weird dream. The disarmingly gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model, Candice Swanepoel, made two public appearances over the weekend where she cozied up to the Axe Astronaut on the red carpet.
Like the correlating Super Bowl ad, the promotional stunt was just a reminder that “Nothing beats an astronaut.” While the commercial debuted to mixed reviews (we’re not really into the whole damsel in distress bit, either), we can’t help but enjoy these snapshots of Ms. Swanepoel.
Why? Well, first of all, she wore two incredible dresses—a fitted LBD with a zippered slit followed by a lace applique number with a sheer bodice. Secondly, what’s not to love about a model who doesn’t take themselves too seriously to publicly canoodle a man in a fake space suit?
