While more than 30 women walk the Victoria’s Secret runway each year, the brand highlights a few “Angels” whom it grooms to be superstar ambassadors.
The brand’s current favorites are Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr and, of course, Adriana Lima. They replaced former icons like Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, and Heidi Klum.
During its annual Fashion Show, Victoria’s Secret made it very clear whom its grooming to be the next superstar: 24-year-old Candice Swanepoel.
Ambrosio and Lima are now 31 and Kerr is 29. While they’re still young and beautiful by most standards, that’s practically retiring age for a model.
Swanepoel was the only model to get her own segment on the hour-long CBS special. The piece went into her childhood in South Africa, and how she was discovered (she first acted as a stand-in for the other Victoria’s Secret models.)
“Candice has become a superstar,” a creative director raved to the camera. She does have more accolades than many other Victoria’s Secret models, with Vogue, Elle, and GQ covers under her belt.
But some don’t see Swanepoel as an appropriate role model. A photo of her looking frighteningly thin went viral last year after someone posted it to Reddit with the caption “makes me want to puke.”
Regardless, the segment highlighting Swanepoel during the most important marketing event of the year shows that Victoria’s Secret is serious about making her a major face of the brand.
Don’t be surprised if Swanepoel ends up modeling the million-dollar Fantasy Bra next year.

Yesterday adding things to my Amazon wishlist I came across this book called, “Around The House With Candice Swanepoel” by Russell James. With 130+ pages of our beautiful angel it’s definitely a must have! The book is set to be released March 2013, but you can pre-order yourself a copy now for a discount price and ummm… while you’re at it get me one too? Hehehehehe!
Here’s a confession: I love the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Not necessarily for the same reasons that, say, my brother would like it. But with the live music (this year Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber performed) and the ridiculous costumes (my friend Jessica Hart came out with a corset that turned into the handles of a child’s bicycle), it’s like the biggest, wildest gay fantasy in the world. To be in that show, however, isn’t exactly a fantasy. As I learned firsthand when Candice Swanepoel lead me through the paces of her workout an hour before the show, these girls are tough. Like, pro athlete tough. Their bodies are machines and they take their workouts as seriously as they do their runway fittings. In this video, I get down to business with Candice, and then she makes my wildest dreams come true when she makes me an honorary angel for a day. And here’s another confession: After we finished filming this little video, I was sore for three days.

Victoria’s Secret taped it’s annual fashion show a few days ago (Nov 7) at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York. Candice wore three looks this year which all included Victoria’s Secrets signature wings.
